Broag-Remeha annouces Carbon Offsetting agreement
Broag-Remeha are pleased to announce their carbon offsetting agreement with the Community Gateway Association and People 1st, who are the first social housing organisations in England to sign up to a carbon offsetting scheme
Broag-Remeha has signed an agreement to offset the carbon emissions produced from its Remeha Avanta range of boilers installed for the Preston-based Community Gateway Association (CGA) and Slough-based People 1st. The scheme has come about through both organisations working closely with Broag-Remeha, who are one of their principal suppliers. Under the ground-breaking scheme, Broag-Rehema will pay a carbon offsetting sum of £7.50 per tonne to Climate Care for each new boiler purchased, one of the UK’s leading organisations in this field. Climate Care will deliver carbon emission reductions elsewhere in the world through carefully monitored and verified projects.
The product in question has already incorporated significant environmental improvements. The new Remeha Avanta range has reduced carbon emissions by 34% compared to its predecessor.
Broag-Remeha has been keen to welcome partners in its commitment to the environment and approached CGA and People 1st, who were the first to sign up to the agreement. Chair of People 1st, Sue Morris, is delighted to be part of the scheme, commenting, “Not only is it important to be part of such a commitment to the environment but the partnership is also delivering value for money for our tenants. The current contract for Avanta boilers is very competitive in terms of price and excellent parts and warranty. In this case it really does make sense to go greener”.
Chief Executive of the Community Gateway Association, Diane Bellinger, is delighted to be part of the scheme, commenting, “One of Gateway’s core strategies is to take our social responsibility seriously. Our people, customers, partners, suppliers and our communities are all affected by what we do and how we do it. We believe we have a duty to manage our business processes so that we have a positive long term effect on our communities, local neighbourhood and the environment generally. By supporting Climate Care through our partners Broag-Rehema, we will be contributing to projects that not only reduce levels of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, but bring a wide range of other benefits to local communities, who are at the heart of everything we do”. Broag-Remeha National Specifications Manager, Mike Freeman added, “Ecologically enlightened organisations like such as People 1st and CGA have already started to reduce carbon emissions, but there are some activities where producing emissions is currently unavoidable, like heating your home. And that is where carbon offsetting comes in.
To reduce Preston’s, and Slough’s, impact on the climate, we are agreeing to offset one tonne towards the life of each of our Remeha Avanta boilers. Moreover, we hope that this scheme will encourage businesses and individuals to tackle climate change above and beyond our commitment. £7.50 per tonne it is a small price to pay for such a collectively significant contribution to combating climate change. We are looking forward to working with the both organisations on this exciting project.”
