Installation of Avanta 24s system boilers at the University of Hull
As part of a rolling refurbishment of student housing stock by the University of Hull, three local contractors are currently replacing aging cast iron floor standing boilers with Remeha Avanta 24s system boilers.
To date, 40 Avantas have been installed in student houses, with a further 20 installations planned to complete the second phase of refurbishment by early in 2010. Each typical 1920s terraced house provides accommodation for five students, each with their own study bedroom complete with washbasin. The Avanta 24s, unobtrusively wall hung in the common room of each residence, and linked to a 250 litre un-vented cylinder, provides both hot water and central heating for the whole building. In the interests of further economy and environmental savings, the boilers are pre-set to a low flow temperature (approx 60°C) and output is further supplemented in one property by a solar system.
Uniquely among system boilers, the Avanta range permits installation in a space equivalent to a standard kitchen unit. With a nominal 24kW output (80/60°C), the Avanta 24s incorporates a Grundfos Automatic 2-speed pump for energy saving and silent operation and a modulating fan to ensure ultra low Nox emissions.
Ian Gibbs, the University of Hull's Energy Manager, voiced his satisfaction with the forty boilers already installed and commented that Remeha products had been selected chiefly because of their cost-effectiveness and reliability, together with the simplicity of installation and operation.
